Mason Jar – Strawberry Basil Lemonade
A couple of years ago at our local farmers market, we had a vendor that sold different types of lemonades and iced teas. My favorite was their strawberry basil lemonade. It sounds a little strange at first but it is so refreshing.
Every January or February when lemons come in season here in Arizona, I like to get a bunch of lemons and juice so I have fresh squeezed lemon juice to last the year. I freeze my juice in 1 cup Soupercubes so when I’m ready to make a batch of this refreshing lemonade, I just have to pull a cube (1 cup) out of the freezer.
So yesterday, it was a hot one where we live. I think it reached 99 degrees so it was the perfect day to make a batch of Strawberry Basil Lemonade especially since strawberries were on sale this week and my basil is growing well in my garden.
Mason Jar Recipe
I love to make this Strawberry Basil Lemonade mason jar recipe in a half gallon mason jar. Just pour 1 cup lemon juice into the jar along with ½ c sugar (you can use ¾ c or if 1 c sugar, depending on how sweet you like your lemonade). Next add 8 to 10 cut up strawberries along with 10 – 15 basil leaves. I also like to add a few fresh lemon slices. Then I fill the rest of the half gallon mason jar with water. Finally, put the jar in the fridge for 3 to 4 hours for the flavors to blend.
My favorite jar to serve a glass of Strawberry Berry Lemonade is the wide mouth pint jar. If I’m really thirsty or if I’d like to turn this into the best “Arnold Palmer” (half iced tea, half lemonade) you’ve ever had, I will use the 24 oz tall wide mouth “Venti” mason jar.
So give this mason jar recipe a try and let me know what you think. If you have never had the strawberry basil flavor combo before, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. This is a great summertime drink at your next BBQ!
